Secondary School Update - 27 September 2024

Updated: Sep 27

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE Jonathan Brayshaw

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an incredible term it has been! As I reflect on the past few weeks, I am filled with gratitude for the progress and achievements of our students. This term has offered an abundance of opportunities for students to flourish spiritually, academically, socially and physically.

In Week 5, our Year 8 students had an exciting opportunity to experience a taste of Stage 5. Through a variety of elective classes offered throughout the day, students explored different subjects to help them consider the passions and interests they may wish to pursue further in 2025.

In Week 7, students from Years 7 to 12 came together for the annual Secondary Encounter, a truly special event. Students engaged in a time of singing worship to the God of the Bible, joined together in prayer, and were encouraged by the inspiring stories shared by our guest speakers.

This week, our focus has been on celebrating the incredible achievements of our Year 12 Graduating Class of 2024 and acknowledging the remarkable impact they have had on our College community. The week commenced with Year 12 students leading a Creative Assembly for the entire Secondary School. Year 12 enjoyed a volleyball match against the teachers, followed by a BBQ lunch. On Tuesday, we honoured our Year 12 students with a special breakfast, lovingly prepared by Mrs Truman and Mrs Haora, before the students spent the day together at Manly with their Homeroom Teachers, Mr Aslam and Miss Kunz, along with Mr McGowan and Stage 6 Coordinator Mrs Aydin. The week culminated with a God-honouring Graduation Ceremony and guard of honour, followed by a wonderful Valedictory Dinner on Thursday evening.

While we have rightly focused on farewelling our senior students, I would like to take a moment to recognise all of our Secondary students. They showed immense respect, kindness and gratitude toward the Year 12 Graduating Class, and their participation in the guard of honour was a touching display of warmth and thankfulness. Their engagement this term has been nothing short of admirable, and I am appreciative of the way they have applied themselves in every aspect of College life.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thankfulness to parents and carers for your ongoing support. Your partnership is invaluable as we work together to help each child form into the people God has created them to be. Our team looks forward to welcoming students back on Monday 14 October for their final term of the year, wearing their formal summer uniform. Further details for Term 4 will be communicated during the school holidays. We pray that this school break offers students and families an opportunity to find rest, recharge and rejuvenate.

YEAR 12 HAVE GRADUATED!

This week we farewelled our Year 12 students as they graduated from our College. Some of this cohort have been ACC students since Kindergarten, while others joined us more recently. Each of them has had an impact on our College community, and we pray that as they sit their HSC exams and continue their journey into adulthood, they keep their eyes on the God who sustains them. YEAR 9 BIBLE STUDIES Ben Kwok

Year 9 students enjoyed an incursion with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) this term. Through virtual reality and other hands-on experiences, students learned about the impact of MAF's work and their opportunity to serve others.

MAF's purpose is to deliver practical and spiritual care to people in places of deepest human need in remote communities. Every few minutes, an MAF plane takes off or lands somewhere in the world. MAF currently has around 120 aircraft and serves in more than 25 countries.

CIS SECONDARY STATE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Sarah Allen

On Tuesday 24 September, students from all over New South Wales gathered for the prestigious Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Secondary Athletics State Carnival. Representing ACC with pride, our talented athletes took on fierce competition and showcased their God-given gifts in both track and field events.

James, with incredible speed and determination, competed in both the 100m and 200m sprints, demonstrating remarkable athleticism and grit. Summer, in the long jump, leaped with power and precision, making her mark with her fantastic performances. Edwina excelled in the hurdles and triple jump, displaying agility and focus as she navigated each challenge with poise.

Throughout the day, our athletes embodied the true spirit of sportsmanship—encouraging others, competing with grace, and using their talents to glorify God. Their commitment and passion were evident not only in their events but also in the way they supported their teammates and fellow competitors. It was a blessing to witness their hard work and dedication as they represented ACC with excellence.

The day was a celebration of community, competition, and the gifts we’ve been given, reminding us all of the joy and opportunities that come with being part of the broader sporting community.

YEAR 10 EXPERIENCE HAMILTON Liam Tomalaris

Year 10 students had the fantastic opportunity to go and see the hit musical 'Hamilton' at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. This excursion, whilst an excellent opportunity for many students to have their first experience with musical theatre, also provided an insight into a different style and genre of theatre that will supplement their studies in this area for the Year 11 Drama course. The students had a great time, and found the performance impactful and exhilarating, with many looking forward to experiencing more performances in the future, both in the audience and on the stage.
