Parent Announcements - 30 August 2024

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST 2024

Today we celebrated all the fathers and father figures in the ACC community with a special breakfast. Our fathers were treated to a breakfast burger (or alternative), cooked and prepared by ACC staff. We also gifted a free coffee or hot drink from our Café, for those who were able to come on site, or a bottle of water for those who were in the car line. We trust that the large number of fathers who were able to come to this event felt blessed and enjoyed some time with their children at the College.

COLLEGE CAFE - UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!

Our College Cafe is UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. We are so pleased to welcome the Grade A Coffee team, headed up by Tim (who you may remember from his coffee van appearances at the College over the past few years). The College is delighted to be partnering with Grade A Coffee as this is a collaboration which enhances our commitment to serve and raise up a generation that loves serving and loves God (and good coffee!).

The Cafe serves Pablo & Rusty's Porter Street Blend coffee beans, and a range of other hot drinks. Cafe operating hours are 7.30 am - 11.30 am, Monday to Friday.

This change is accompanied by our deepest gratitude and appreciation for our previous cafe vendors, Healthy Canteens. Their service to our College Community has been appreciated, and we are profoundly thankful for their contributions. We extend our special thanks to Emma for her exceptional friendliness and kindness in managing the College Cafe. Healthy Canteens will still be serving our community at our College Canteen.

CanvasCon REPRESENTATIVE

Our Assistant Principal: Teaching & Learning, Mrs Su Temlett was invited to speak about Student Success at CanvasCon in Melbourne earlier this week. CanvasCon is an international event attended by 600 educational delegates from the K-12 and University sectors, gathering together to discuss the educational e-learning ecosystem. Canvas is our Learning Management System that is heavily used by our On Campus and Distance Education students to underpin their learning. This was a fantastic opportunity to share with the wider sector the excellent work we are doing at school.

AIR GARDENS AT ACC

Last Monday, our school was excited as we welcomed one of the inventors behind the Airgarden aeroponics system, Prue Bauer. Prue's visit was more than just a special event—it was an inspiring glimpse into the future of sustainable agriculture and hands-on learning.

Prue arrived with infectious enthusiasm and a deep passion for her invention, the Airgarden aeroponics system. Known for its cutting-edge approach to growing plants using a nutrient-rich mist, the Airgarden system represents a major leap forward in eco-friendly agriculture. Her mission is to make advanced gardening accessible and engaging for schools and communities.

The highlight of the visit was a hands-on demonstration where students and teachers had the chance to interact with the Air Garden system firsthand. Prue guided us through the setup and operation of the system, explaining how it uses a fine mist to nourish plant roots, resulting in faster growth and higher yields. Students were fascinated by the efficiency and simplicity of the setup, and they eagerly participated in planting various seeds and seedlings.

“This is not just about growing plants; it’s about understanding the science behind how plants thrive,” Prue explained. “With aeroponics, you’re giving plants exactly what they need in the most efficient way possible.”

The visit also included a Q&A session where students posed questions about aeroponics, sustainability, and the future of agriculture.

“Our goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators,” Prue said. “Seeing the excitement and curiosity in these young minds reminds us why we do what we do.”

In the coming weeks, our school will be integrating six Airgarden aeroponics systems into our curriculum

from Kinder to Secondary. Students will have the opportunity to use the system for hands-on experiments, explore plant biology, and engage in projects that highlight sustainable practices.
